BIG Entertainment in a Small Town!

Social Circle Theater is a non-profit community theater founded in 2000 by Bob and Mabel Standridge.  Today the theater continues to meet the Standridge's goal of unifying the community through live local theater.

After seeing "Swamp Gravy" in Colquitt, Georgia, the Standridge family felt a similar theater in Social Circle would preserve the town's history and unify the community through story telling and folklore.  They then sought out Mr. Joey Fargar of Atlanta to create a folk life play from stories that have been passed down through the generations ever since a few town folk gathered around a well where a passerby dubbed it a "social circle".  The theater has entertained and shared the history of Social Circle ever since.  Through storytelling and dramatic acting, the theater takes patrons back in time, showing them what life was like in years past.

The Standridge family is passionate about offering as many opportunities as possible for our youth and community.  In addition to our annual community production featuring as many as 75 local cast members, the theater has also been home to many popular hits such as, "Annie Jr.", "Godspell Jr.", "Once On This Island Jr.", "Really Rosie" and others.

Missoula Children's Theater comes every summer for a weeklong drama camp and production, bringing wonderful shows such as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "The Jungle Book."  These productions bring in anywhere from 40- 70 local students, giving them the opportunity to learn about theater and giving them a place for their talent to shine and grow.

The Social Circle City School system is one of the theater's best partners.  During the school year, the theater provides 6-8 opportunities for the schools to attend performances of different art forms including drama, dance, puppetry and musical ensembles.

In keeping with the spiritual values of its founders, the theater offers quarterly Gospel Concerts by Sunny South Quartet.  These talented performers have been singing old southern gospel together for over 40 years.  They welcome all to attend this free concert and share in an evening of good music and good fellowship.

"Cotton Patch Gospel" is one of Social Circle Theater's most acclaimed productions; written by Tom Key and music by Harry Chapin.  This production tells the stories of Jesus with a true southern flare.  The show has been described as "Godspell meets O' Brother Where Art Thou".  Social Circle Theater's interpretation features our own Joey Fargar and Hal Wells with live blue grass accompaniment.  "Cotton Patch Gospel" has run for 3 very successful seasons.  In 2005, the theater partnered with HeartBound Prison Ministries and toured the Georgia Prison circuit with Cotton Patch as an outreach ministry.

Currently the theater is managed by Beth Wells, daughter of Bob and Mabel Standridge, who shares her family's vision for building unity and community spirit.

We hope you'll come down and enjoy the theater.  We are BIG entertainment in a SMALL town!
